Best Webcam Monologue / Carrie Audino Video

The Big Picture Win a little cash and receive a one-on-one Skype consultation with Emmy Award-winning casting director of MAD MEN, Carrie Audino.

We’ll provide the monologue (to keep the focus on the acting, rather than the writing), you make the choices (circumstances, place, objective, prior circumsances, etc – play!).

Here’s the monologue:

“If it were up to me… IF… it were up to me… well, it’s never been up to me, so I’ll have to think about that… But now that it is, now that I have the power, then I would just leave. And not come back. And not tell this story. Just erase it – the whole thing – from my life, like it never happened.  But it did.  And it’s too late, and it’s NOT up to me.” To enter, simply submit a video of yourself performing this monologue (you will need to add the video to one of your video galleries first – or create a new gallery and add the video to that gallery; for instructions on creating galleries and adding media, CLICK HERE; for a guide to submitting your media to an initiative, CLICK HERE). Unedited webcam or smartphone videos only.  Winners will be selected as follows:
  • MyTeeVee members (i.e., YOU) will vote for their favorite monologues
  • The 30 entries with the most votes will move on to the “semi-final” round*
  • Out of the 30 semi-finalists, we and our blue ribbon panel will select 10 finalists*
  • MyTeeVee members will vote again for their favorite finalists
1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes will be awarded to the three finalists who receive the most votes.* 1st place – $500 and a one-on-one Skype consultation with Emmy Award-Winning Casting Director, Carrie Audino 2nd place – $300 3rd place – $200 NOTE:  If you are a member of SAG/AFTRA, you can participate in this and every other MyTeeVee initiative. Congrats to ALL the semi finalists! :)

  3. chelseabarrett January 7, 2013

Hi, when are the finalists announced?

    • Kevin Jackson January 7, 2013

We’re putting together information for everyone right now and will be sending it out shortly (within a matter of hours).

    • Kevin Jackson January 3, 2013

      Hey there MC,

Yeah, this particular initiative is already in the voting stage and isn’t accepting any more entries. There will be many others, though, so stay tuned — we’ll likely announce another one as soon as this one is over.

    • mcpre2000 January 3, 2013

My bad – misread the dates! Enjoy the video anyway!

  4. Babz2222 December 28, 2012

To be or not to be… that is the question…

  5. StellarArcadia December 10, 2012

I am wondering how long the voting period will remain open? I thought it ended yesterday but is it extending another couple of days or so?

    • Kevin Jackson December 10, 2012

      Hi Ogeyi,

This round of voting is actualyl open until January 6th.

  6. Samantha December 6, 2012

Does the place of the entries on the page correlate with how many votes they have received?

    • Kevin Jackson December 6, 2012

      Hi Samantha,

No, the place on the page is completely random and changes each time you refresh the page. We did it this way so that the order of the videos wouldn’t in anyway bias any potential voters one way or the other, and so that every entry had an equal opportunity to be near the top of the list.

  7. mbird December 5, 2012

Are people allowed to vote for one video more than once? Also, how do we know how many votes we have? Thanks in advance!

    • Kevin Jackson December 5, 2012

      Hey Makana,

Yes, you may vote for as many entries as you like. You just can’t vote for any single entry more than once.

As far as finding out how many votes you have, you can send me a private message and I’ll tell you, but we made the decision to not display this information publicly because of the possible ill feelings it could engender.

  8. CelineH December 4, 2012

So many great entries! It’s lovely to see the subtle differences

  9. rbogdewic December 3, 2012

    Hey Kevin,

What’s up man? Listen, I know you put a lot of work into this website and it is greatly appreciated. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I am very grateful for your site. Anyway, I just wanted to add you this comment of gratitude among the many complaints that you find yourself dealing with (which is just par for the course, I understand).

Keep up the great work bro!

    • Kevin Jackson December 3, 2012

      Thanks, Ryan!

  10. GordonCummings December 3, 2012

Not very apple friendly at all cannot watch the entries, not really finding a way around the 404 error also for uploading photos to gallery. Also cropping profile pictures is not possible via IPhone or IPad. Would love to see the talent

    • Kevin Jackson December 3, 2012

      Hey there Gordon,

Sorry you’re having difficulties. Not sure why you’d be having a “404 error” when trying to view photos. 404 errors happen when you’re searching for a page that doesn’t exist. I looked in your gallery and you haven’t uploaded any photos to it, yet. To do so, follow the instructions here:

As far as not being Mac friendly, the issue isn’t Mac (we all use Mac’s here). The issue is mostly that our site isn’t optimized for mobile devices yet (we’ve only been open to the public for two months, so there are some kinks we’re still working out; having said that, everything should work on an iPad; if it’s not, that’s a new issue that has come up).

I just looked into it, and this is definitely a new glitch that has come up. For the time being, I’d view the site on a laptop or desktop — everything seems fine there. Mobile devices aren’t playing embedded YouTube videos, though. Probably has something to do with the knife fight that’s been going on between Google and Apple lately, a change in the api or codecs. We’ll figure it out. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

    Hi Kevin,

I submitted my video a couple of weeks ago, and I don’t see it up here.

  12. Benjamin Burt December 2, 2012

I submitted a low quality version of my video (the audio didn’t sync up). I am re-submitting a new version through Vimeo. It is the same video, just better quality. Please delete my first submission.

    • Kevin Jackson December 2, 2012

      Hey there Benjamin,

It appears that your original entry was deleted when you deleted the original video that you submitted to the contest. You should be all set.

  13. ScrunchZ December 2, 2012

Well I would like to enter how I am SAG and since it is Sunday, the office is closed. If the deadline is extended I will enter otherwise I await until the next contest. Thank you for the opportunity.

    • Kevin Jackson December 2, 2012

      Hi Laura,

Go ahead and submit your entry, if you’d like. Tomorrow contact SAG and if there is any difficulty with them and you’d like to remove your submission, you can easily delete it.

  14. Kevin Jackson November 23, 2012

    @adamburch Hey Adam,

Sorry I didn’t respond sooner, but it looks like you figured it out?..

    • Sasha Lipskaia November 24, 2012

Hi, I was about to submit- but I currently live in Canada- is that allowed?

    • Kevin Jackson November 21, 2012

Remember – Even if you only have one item in your gallery, you still have to click on it in order to select it and arrive at the screen with the “Submit This Entry” button.

    • Sasha Lipskaia December 3, 2012

Let me know if canadians can enter any future contests! I had this entry ready to go- but it isn’t allowed, since I am not a US citizen..I am ACTRA/UDA, and am really excited about this opportunity.

  15. AdrianDeane November 19, 2012

I’m having trouble uploading my video to a gallery. I’m sure it’s uploaded, because I saw the progress bar and it took enough time. The ending message I see is this: “Files Selected: 1 / Queued Files: 1.” And when I click back to the designated gallery, my video file is not there. Has anyone encountered this problem too?
    Thank you.

  16. amandaleamason November 7, 2012

Hey, I’m having trouble submitting my video. How did you end up sending it? When I click the “enter now” button it also just brings me to my video.

    • Kevin Jackson November 19, 2012

      Hi Amanda,

Just double-checking — did you get your question answered? Sorry for the delay in responding.

  17. Sarah Rodriguez November 7, 2012

can I make the unedited version on my digital camera?

    • Kevin Jackson November 7, 2012

Sure. The most important point is that we want the playing field as level as possible. That’s why we don’t want any editing, elaborate set-ups, etc. We want the focus to be on the acting as exclusively as possible.

  18. rbogdewic November 5, 2012

I don’t know how to submit this entry. I clicked the “Enter Now!” button, but it only brings me to my video. How do I enter this video in?

    • rbogdewic November 5, 2012

Never mind. I found out how to do enter it in. Thank you.
